Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that All-on-4® is a significant investment. You may have more questions you want answering before booking your no-obligation consultation with us, which is why we have compiled our most common FAQs below.

Understandably, we have a range of frequently asked questions from potential patients and current patients. One of our most common FAQs is, “Am I a good candidate for All-on-4®?” It all depends on your situation, as everyone is different!

Take a look at our other FAQs below to learn more about All-on-4® and Next Smile Australia.

Am I a good candidate for All-on-4®  dental implants?

Several factors may affect your suitability for All-on-4® dental implants. To assess your situation and determine your suitability, a Next Smile Australia certified surgeon will carefully examine your dental health and discuss your overall health, utilising CT scans of your jawbone, digital impressions and photographic imaging, and your patient history.

Considering the results of your initial consultation and assessment, they will then recommend a tailor-made treatment solution that serves your needs and preferences. In rare cases, medical conditions can interfere with your suitability for dental implants. Should our team determine that you are not a candidate for All-on-4® based on health concerns, we will recommend alternative treatment options.

Why are dental implants a better alternative to dentures and bridges?

Some people cope well with dentures, others do not. Dentures have been available for hundreds of years.

They work by adhesion in your mouth and the success of dentures may be dependent upon the amount of residual bone post extraction of your teeth. They may also be affected by the amount and consistency of your saliva. In most cases, as the length of time you are missing your teeth increases, the bone levels continue to shrink and may cause more difficulty in stabilising your dentures.

Dental implants and the All-on-4® treatment options allow the bridge of teeth to be fixed to the dental implants (foundations) and therefore provide improved stability compared with dentures. Once the teeth are attached to the implants, they have the same stability as your natural teeth but will feel different as all the teeth are connected together in a bridge scenario. There are no individual teeth in the All-on-4® treatment options.

As the teeth are attached to the implants you should enjoy a better outcome in terms of functionality and appearance. All-on-4® may provide you with an easier cleaning and maintenance regime, which is essential to their longevity. They are designed to function similarly to your own teeth and provide confidence that there is stability of the teeth when biting, chewing, smiling, laughing and playing sport.

How long does the All-on-4®  Dental Implants procedure take?

Following your initial consultation with our experienced dental teams you will be provided with detailed treatment plans for your surgery and rehabilitation. Once you have made a decision on your treatment options you will be provided with a timeline for your treatment.

All-on-4® generally has a 1-3 hour operation time, depending upon the number of jaws you treat and in most cases the temporary teeth are provided on the same day. In some cases we may need to insert the teeth on the second day, within 24 hours of surgery.

Do dental implants last forever?

Dental implants are generally a long-term solution for your dental restoration. They do not last forever and the length of time they last may be affected by a number of circumstances.

Long term results may be dependent on your oral health habits, lifestyle and medications that you are taking now or in the future and your current and future medical health.

What is the average cost of an All-on-4® procedure?

Understandably, this is one of our most frequently asked questions. During an initial All-on-4® consultation at a Next Smile Australia clinic near you, we’ll fully examine your dental health and outline your estimated treatment cost.
