The Types of Dental Surgeons You’ll Meet at Next Smile Adelaide

When you’re looking for a new dental clinic, it’s natural to feel a bit nervous and uncertain. There are plenty of clinics around, but what is the quality of their work like? How much do they charge, and are they friendly and caring when carrying out their treatments? These are all important considerations.

Fortunately, there’s a new clinic in Adelaide owned by four dental surgeons with a combined level of experience unmatched in South Australia.  And their specialty is replacing missing or badly damaged teeth and providing you with a new smile in as little as 24 hours.

If you’ve been living with lost teeth, help is at hand. Get ready to reclaim a winning smile at Next Smile Australia’s new Adelaide clinic, home of All-on-4® Adelaide treatment.

In Australia, missing teeth are very common. There’s a mean average of 4.5 missing teeth per person. The most frequent causes include advanced decay, cavities and gum disease, injury and trauma, and genetic conditions such as hypodontia. Yet as prevalent as they are, gaps in your smile can also be dangerous. Even one missing tooth can cause your jawbone to weaken from lack of use and place your other teeth at risk. Remaining teeth can shift out of place to fill the gaps, and even simple tasks like eating and speaking can become more difficult. Open pockets in the gums allow bacteria to get in, leading to gum infections such as periodontitis. Gum disease is the main way that bacteria travels throughout the rest of the body, causing conditions such as cardiovascular disease.

The All-on-4® treatment helps prevent these problems from occurring and helps to restore your dental and overall health. Next Smile Australia Adelaide provides All-on-4® in Adelaide. But if you’d like to find out what kind of team will be treating you and what types of dental surgeons they are, read on.

Next Smile Australia Adelaide

Four experienced dental surgeons who are also owners opened Next Smile Australia Adelaide to serve the needs of the city and its surrounding suburbs. Dr Ian Bills, Dr Evan Jones, Dr Edward Pitts and Dr Nicholas Wood set out to pursue their interest in the All-on-4® treatment while creating an outstanding patient experience in a comfortable location. You’ll find Next Smile Australia Adelaide at 65 Magill Road, Stepney, a suburb just outside of Adelaide City.

Next Smile Australia Adelaide’s specialty is All-on-4®, which is very similar to traditional implants but with some important differences. The main one is that while traditional dental implants involve a series of titanium screws inserted into the jawbone with artificial teeth attached to the top, All-on-4®requires only four screws: two at the back and two at the front on one jawbone. These four screws alone support an entire “bridge” or arch of new teeth.

Pioneered by Dr Paulo Malo in 1998, All-on-4® has been a successful treatment option for tens of thousands of patients and has a clinically proven 98% success rate. The procedure is specifically designed to avoid the need for dental bone grafting and other painful procedures and has a shorter recovery time than traditional dental implants.

At Next Smile Australia, we use ‘The Malo Protocol’, Dr Malo’s own two-bridge treatment process. The first stage is a “provisional bridge” you wear for three to six months as your jawbone fuses with the implants. Once this has occurred, you’ll be ready for your “final bridge”, or final set of permanent teeth.

Here are Next Smile Australia Adelaide’s four clinic owners and lead All-on-4®Adelaide surgeons and a little about the backgrounds of each. These surgeons are the dental professionals who will be responsible for your treatment at Next Smile Australia Adelaide.

Dr Ian Bills

Dr Ian Bills has more than 45 years in the dental industry. After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 1977, he immediately began the process of furthering his knowledge and, in 1980, was awarded Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He became increasingly interested in dental implants in 1985 and undertook extensive training in the Branemark System, named for the theory of the inventor of dental implants. He’s been involved in implant surgery and implant prosthetics for over 30 years and has conducted courses and workshops in the field, as well as lecturing here and overseas.

Not only has Dr Bills personally trained overseas at Dr Malo’s own Portugal clinic, but he’s also been a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists, as well as the Australian Osseointegration Society and American Academy of Osseointegration. His extensive training and experience in the All-on-4® treatment and the positive results he’s seen in his patients have inspired him to want to share All-on-4® in Adelaide with the people of South Australia.

Dr Evan Jones

A passion for rebuilding patients’ smiles attracted Dr Evan Jones to the All-on-4® treatment, and a sincere interest in and care for his patients makes him a natural fit for Next Smile Australia. After graduating from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, he spent a decade building his skills in rural clinics. Skilled in general dentistry, his particular areas of knowledge and interest include implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, cosmetic dentistry and challenging extractions.

Dr Jones is the South Australian president of the Australia Endodontic Society and a member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and the Australian Osseointegration Society.

Dr Edward Pitts

Dr Edward Pitts followed in his family’s footsteps with beneficial results for him and for his patients. He graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2012 and spent ten years at a Hyde Park clinic, where he took a particular interest in implants. Trained in the Malo Protocol by Next Smile partners Dr Larry Benge, Dr Tony Rotondo and Dr Paulo Malo himself, he has now placed over 400 implants.

Dr Pitts’ commitment to his industry and care for his patients has led him to travel to Vietnam to perform urgent dental care in remote villages. That same passion is what compels him to provide treatment to patients with All-on-4® in Adelaide.

Dr Nicholas Wood

As a stakeholder in six South Australian clinics, Dr Nicholas Wood is one of the youngest yet most successful practice owners in the country. After graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide, he undertook a Masters of Clinical Dentistry in fixed and removable prosthodontics at London’s esteemed King’s College. He’s undertaken further study and research both in Australia and abroad that includes mentorship in the Malo Protocol from Dr Larry Benge, Dr Brian Johnston, Dr Tony Rotondo and Dr Paulo Malo.

Focusing primarily on implant and cosmetic dentistry, Dr Wood is now using his skills and range of experience to provide All-on-4® in Adelaide.

These four talented dental surgeons make up Next Smile Australia’s Adelaide team. If you’re looking for a treatment option that provides you with a brand new smile in 24 hours, they have the dental skills to take care of it and the people skills to make it a comfortable experience for you.
