What to Expect From Your All-on-4® Process in Sydney

The All-on-4® treatment offers an exciting option for those who have been living with teeth that are missing or badly damaged: a new smile in just one day.

What is the All-on-4® procedure? All-on-4® is an advanced method of dental restoration. The process is similar to traditional dental implants, which involve a series of titanium screws inserted into the jawbone to replace the roots of each lost tooth. All-on-4®, however, supports an entire ‘bridge’ or arch of new teeth on just four implants: two at the front and two at the back on one jawbone.

Developed by Dr Paulo Malo in 1998 in partnership with Nobel Biocare, All-on-4® can prevent the long-term problems and health conditions caused by missing teeth. It’s a procedure with a 98% success rate and a unique approach that avoids the need for uncomfortable measures such as dental bone grafting. This makes for a shorter recovery time than traditional methods of restorative dentistry.

Located in Bondi Junction, Next Smile Australia Sydney provides treatment with All-on-4® in Sydney. If you’ve been putting up with missing or badly damaged teeth, the team at Next Smile Australia Sydney can give you a new beginning with a fully-functioning set of All-on-4®. But there are some questions to address first, such as “Am I eligible for All-on-4®?” and “How long does All-on-4® take?”

Next Smile Australia Sydney uses Dr Malo’s own treatment process, a two-stage approach called ‘The Malo Protocol’. If a Next Smile Australia dental surgeon assesses that you’re eligible for All-on-4®, you’ll follow a treatment timeline that is tailored to your personal journey but still runs in a series of steps that have been proven to be effective.

Here are the general steps of our treatment process:

Consultation

Your All-on-4® journey starts with a personal consultation. You’ll meet with a Next Smile Australia dentist or one of our accredited partner dentists, who will assess your suitability for the treatment. There you’ll be able to find out more about what the All-on-4® procedure is and ask questions like “How long does All-on-4® take?”

While All-on-4® surgeries take place at our industry-leading Super Clinics, our accredited partners serve areas that don’t have a Super Clinic close by. They can bring the same standard of care closer to home for you and take care of all of your appointments except for your pre-surgery consultation and the surgery itself, which you’ll still have to travel to a Super Clinic for.

During your consultation, your Next Smile Australia dentist will take a close look at your dental and medical history in a supportive, judgement-free space. They will explain the treatment process in detail and take jawbone scans, digital impressions and X-rays to acquire a complete picture of your oral health.

There may be circumstances in which the Next Smile Australia surgeon decides that All-on-4® isn’t the right treatment plan for you. For example, if you only have one or two missing teeth rather than multiple missing teeth, they’ll advise you to look into options like traditional dental implants instead. If All-on-4® is found to be the right treatment for you, you’ll move on to stage two.

Preparation for Surgery

When the results of your consultation are assessed, we’ll present you with a personal diagnosis and a treatment plan that meets your needs. Based on the scans and impressions we took, we’ll begin crafting your new set of provisional teeth. These will be ready often as soon as you wake up from your implant surgery, but never more than 24 hours afterwards.

A Next Smile Australia dentist or one of our accredited partner dentists will help you to prepare for your All-on-4® surgery. On the day of your surgery, we’ll make sure the entire process is as comfortable as possible for you. Steps you can take to prepare for the big day include wearing loose-fitting clothes, stocking up on soft foods and organising transport with a trusted friend or family member.

Day of Surgery

The day of your All-on-4® treatment in Sydney is the day you step into the world with a new smile. Needless to say, it’s a day you’ll remember for life. Four implants are inserted into your jawbone. You’ll receive your first provisional teeth, made from the highest quality Nobel Biocare materials, on the day of your surgery.

First Teeth

You’ll wear your provisional teeth for three to six months, giving the implants the chance to fuse with your jawbone in a process known as “osseointegration”. Once this process is complete and your mouth has adapted to fit the new implants, you’ll be ready for stage two: the fitting of your final bridge or final teeth.

Recovery

Your treatment with All-on-4® in Sydney doesn’t end when you step out of the Super Clinic after your surgery. Next Smile Australia provides assistance with the aftercare of your new set of teeth.

While All-on-4® implants don’t decay like regular teeth, they still require maintenance in order to last. To take care of your new smile, brush the prosthetics as though they were your regular teeth, floss and book an appointment to have them professionally cleaned every six months or so.

Final Teeth

Once your provisional teeth have been in place for three to six months and the implants have fused with your jawbone, it’s time for your final bridge. Unlike dentures, you won’t have to remove your All-on-4® implants for cleaning or before you go to bed. You can go straight to flashing your new smile to the world.
